Research Topic :
1. I have chosen the topic of juvenile probation. I feel very connected to this topic. I am a social work major and when I graduate I would really like to work with kids who are "in the system." I want to work with kids to get out of the system. I think that it is so important that they know that they can really do so much more with their life and that success is theirs for the taking. I think that not only will I find it interesting to explore this topic, but it could also form what I ultimately want to do for a career.
2. I really don't know much about this topic. I know that many children are given probation if their offense was their first one. I also know that probation is generally given for lesser offenses. I also know that probation often involves a probation officer and community service. I know that I don't know a whole lot about this topic but I'm excited to learn more about it. I would like to explore what alternatives to probation might be. I would also like to focus on probation programs that are targeted towards getting kids out of the system.
3. I don't know much about the topic at all. I would like to learn who gets referred to the probation department, why they get referred to the probation department. I would like to know how probation gets revoked. I would like to learn if there are any other non-jail alternatives to probation. I would like to learn how one completes their probation. I would like to know what the qualifications are to become a probation officer. Since I do not know much about this topic, I am really excited to learn basically everything about the topic that I can.
